SJSL Sponsorship Philosophy
The basic idea behind the South Jersey Sports League Sponsorship and our advertising is to use and promote local area businesses to providing a boost to the economy in the local area.
Through non-competitive sports, we can bring back the sense of enjoyment that we experienced as children, and use our collaborative voices to change our community for the better.
Sponsors can use this organization to directly reach the local community in a way that cant be done through any other medium
Our sponsors join with the understanding that the SJSL uses local area businesses to provide and serve all of our business needs. One of the worst things about our area is that when the summer season ends, many local businesses fall an hard financial times. There are tons of seasonal businesses that close shop for the season due to the fact that they cannot generate enough revenue to make operating a reality. But even after the season ends, the people who are here are the ones who pay tazes, work the jobs and own the businesses that keep the shore running all off season.
But there are plenty of businesses that find it difficult to find a direct way to appeal to the people who live heard year round. These are the people in the supermarket, the people whose kids go to the same school as yours, the people who work in the same building as you. We are a community of people who are becoming more and more of just on an online group in the sense that we rarely have the opportunity to meet and interact with the very people who financially make our businesses work!
At the SJSL we offer a unique opportunity to local businesses in the way that we can market and promote them. Almost 100% of our participants come from the local area, so the SJSL offers a unique opportunity in the sense that our membership are the people who shop and spend right here in our area every day!
Sponsorship Plus and Perks
We offer businesses an opportunity to appeal to people in the local community, thereby giving them the opportunity to interact with their daily customers on almost an individual basis. By using community businesses for our business needs, we are taking the money that is generated by the league by members and sponsors and keeping local and working in our community. There may be cheaper or less expensive ways to maintain our operating costs and production and financial needs, but we believe it is important for us to be a source of positive change in our local area. We like the fact the we only use community businesses because we feel that it serves to improve the community as a whole.
With each sponsorship comes the option of hosting a team, as well as free memberships at all four of our sponsor levels, so that as a sponsor you will directly have the opportunity to meet and interact with the public you are trying to reach. Regardless of your length of time in business or the size of your company; we offer every business the opportunity to advertise and form a sponsorship with us. Whether you have 1 or 1,000 employees, every owner and advertiser wants to see their business succeed.
While on the topic, while our larger businesses obviously help us with the financial side of the league, we like to cater to smaller businesses. We offer special and unique opportunities for small businesses advertising and strive to work with smaller companies to meet their advertising costs and needs.
We Are One Big Community of Individuals
We live in such a small community that it seems almost odd to me that more people don‘t know each other. Many people have friendships that stretch across the islands here and to the mainland. But while the quality is there, the quantity is sometimes lacking. One of the toughest things is to keep adding to that base of friends once we hit our early twenties. People are becoming more and more isolated due to things like work, television, and the internet.
One of the great things about sports is that it brings people together. Sports and activities have a way of bonding people together that few other things do. Maybe its the idea of people working towards a common goal, or just the fact that there are other people that you know who are there to back you up and work with you to accomplish things.
I worked in sales for over ten years, and one thing I realized is that its all about the friendships and relationships that you make along the way. I have been lucky enough to have worked with an organization when I lived in Delaware called the Delaware Sports League. Their owners and members promote a sense of betterment in their community through their organization. When my family and I moved here, I felt that a league like the one I had been a part of in Delaware could flourish and really make a difference in our community here, so I decided to start one.
Even though I have started the league, the South Jersey Sports League belongs to its members. This League has the potential to do great things, but it comes down to the fact that this league will only be as successful as our members make it!
The Growth Potential of South Jersey Sports League:
We want our concept to be open to all of the adults in South Jersey that want to get exercise, meet people, and have fun. Our goal is to grow to all of Cape May county by the end of 2013, and hopefully extend to Atlantic County by the end of 2015.
By Spring of 2012, the league has already approximately tripled within the first year alone!
It is through the work of our sponsors and members alike that can make this astonishing growth possible. In July of 2012, The SJSL will be opening its newest branch in North Wildwood and begin offering year round sports there as well as in Ocean City.
Sponsorship in SJSL allows a unique element of being able to meet and socialize with your target demographic on a weekly basis without it being all about a sale. It will allow you to get to know them and perhaps even understand them a little better so you can best meet their needs.
Some businesses choose to be active partners in our league fielding a team and participating on a weekly basis. Other sponsors simply want their name associated with a league with such success in the local area, and choose to let their logo’s and the advertising on the website do the job for them. The great part is that however you market, we have plans and packages that accommodate both types of business!
The SJSL and Networking
Since we are a community, we believe at the SJSL that we have a responsibility to get to know not only the other businesses in the area, but the owners and the people behind them. We are fortunate to live in community primarily supported by smaller independent businesses. Our sponsors are the people and businesses we find ourselves using every day. The pizza place down the street, the surf shop on the island, the bar on the mainland are all primarily smaller businesses with 2 locations or fewer. The SJSL provides a unique opportunity for these businesses to reach new customers in their service area as well as reach across the water.
Here are some great facts about our sponsorship program:
1. Exclusivity - We limit the companies that we will accept as sponsors. Each sponsor offers a specific product or experience. Once you have registered as a sponsor, we will not accept a sponsorship from another group or organization that provides similar products or experiences
2. Since we use ONLY local area businesses for our needs, sponsorship money stays in our community. Even though the prices may be higher for services or equipment than what may be available from a national market or chain, we believe that businesses have a responsibility to the community as a way of showing thanks for their success. Sponsorship money stays right here in our community working to improve it.
3. We intend to offer Networking Events such as “Day at the Beach” and “Deck Party” to allow sponsors the opportunity to meet with other like minded business people who shared and realize the importance and power of a league like SJSL. This gives owner and proprietors the opportunity to develop other working relationships outside the league.
4. We are open to work with you to help you with your businesses needs and ideas. We love that fact that businesses have shown the commitment to helping us, and as we grow, we want to see them do the same. If you have ideas or events you think could benefit from our help, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
I want the SJSL to promote a sense of “business casual”. By that I mean that I want people to get to know each other the way we are when we are not “on the job”. Whether it is a suit, a tie, a polo, heels, whatever you take off when you get home, when you’ve changed in what you feel comfortable in wearing around the house; that’s what I want the SJSL to be like. I want it to be like a pair of good socks. I feel more comfortable in shirts and a t-shirt. I own suits and ties, but underneath it; I’m the guy who wears sandals year round whenever I can. There are more of us out there than we realize, especially in a place like here.
We will work each organization on an individual basis to find out the level of participation they are comfortable with in the SJSL. We have the flexibility to work with all budgets and incomes, and accommodate both small and large businesses.
If you like the ideas and the concepts you’ve read, why not contact us and find out more?
I promise, it can’t hurt.
